Our Story
No Hoof, No Horse
Farriers have said it for two hundred years, and the research keeps confirming it: nearly everything that goes wrong with a horse starts at the bottom of its leg. Hoof problems are the most common health issue horses face, and the connection between hoof health and a horse's overall soundness isn't folklore — it's some of the best-documented science in equine care. We built Farrier's Pick on that one idea, and we started with the tool that makes hoof care possible in the first place.
The Hoof Pick
It's the single most-used tool in any barn, and yet it's barely changed in decades. Stamped metal, a handle that never quite fits your hand, a hook that rusts or bends within a season, broken and bent bristles that fall off after a few uses — most hoof picks are treated like an afterthought, priced and built like one too. That struck us as backwards. If daily hoof care is the highest-leverage thing you can do for your horse, the tool you use for it every single day deserves better materials, better design, and more thought than it's gotten in a generation. So that's where we started: not with the flashiest product we could make, but with the one every horse owner already reaches for, done properly.
Our Name
A farrier is the one person whose entire job is understanding a horse's feet — reading them, correcting them, keeping them sound. When we set out to build products worth trusting, we asked ourselves a simple question: would a farrier actually use and recommend this? The name is our answer, and our standard. Every product we make has to earn the name before it earns a spot in your barn.
Hoof Health First — Then Everywhere Else
We didn't choose hooves as a category by accident. A horse's hoof isn't just a hard shell — it's a working structure that helps circulate blood with every step, and the difference between a horse picked out daily and one checked less often shows up in real health outcomes, not just cleaner feet. Starting there meant we were building a product tied to something that actually matters, not just something easy to sell.
Where We're Headed
The hoof pick is where Farrier's Pick starts, not where it ends. Equine care is full of categories that have gone untouched for years — solid, useful things that everyone buys and no one has bothered to rethink. Our plan is simple: bring the same standard — real materials, real design, real research — to the rest of the barn, one overlooked product at a time.
We're horse people first. If something doesn't hold up on our own place, it doesn't go out under our name.
